asd fuse keeps blowing
I have a 91 dakota 2 wd 3.9l auto trans, that keeps blowing the asd fuse. I have went thru all the wires and can't find any problems there. have redone the splices in the wire harness. Here is the kicker, when the engine is cold I can put in a good fuse and it starts and runs fine. test drive about 2 miles and blows the fuse again.Get out and replace asd fuse and it instantly blows it. Has done this 2-3 times.Seems like it only blows them when motor warms up.I would be thankful for any help or ideas.Anyone know what components are in the auto shutdown circuit that could be getting hot and breaking down and blowing the fuse? Thanks.
On my truck, it was the "Part Throttle Relay" coming apart. This allowed the 12V hot side to hit the metal housing, causing it to blow the fuse. But it wasn't thermal; I doubt that's what your problem is.
Try a) picking up a circuit breaker to use in place of the fuse (Presuming a ATC/ATO type fuse, you can use something like https://smile.amazon.com/Auto-Reset-.../dp/B00NVJ0XMW to save some money) and then b) using the wiring diagrams in the factory service manual for your 1991 (and if you don't have the FSM, pick it up! Worst case is $40 from Bishko for the electronic version) disconnect things when the fuse is blowing until it quits blowing. Or the circuit breaker trips until it quits tripping.
(I ended up replacing the fusible link in my 1988 with a 40A breaker, one of these https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B07NSDGNX6 ... mine used the fusible link instead of the breaker.)
