fuel pump
1993 Dodge Dakota 3.9l v6 magnum, dropped and cleaned gas tank. Replaced the fuel pump, making sure all connections were correct and secure. Fuel gauge still not reading any fuel in tank, and I cant hear the fuel pump kick in when key is turned. I checked fuel pump relay and replaced it with one of the other relays that are near it still nothing. Truck was sitting for approx 3-6 months prior to me purchasing it. Any suggestions on anything else I should check? Any help would be greatly appreciated
Well, I'd first triple check all my connections. If you drop the tank again, and manipulate the sending unit's swing arm, will it change the gauge?
Also, the pump may be quiet if it's new; you might not hear it. I'd check for pressure building before I presumed a new pump wasn't working.
The other thing is to bypass the fuel pump relay and get the pump running constantly while it's out; see if you can hear it then.
If not, at that point you can check the voltages with a multi meter and see if the power's even getting to the fuel pump.
