Default Turn on Lights, Dash Instrument turn off

1996 Dodge Dakota with 3.9L V-6. Two-wheel drive, 6-1/2' bed.

When I turn on the lights, the dash instruments turn off. As soon as I turn the lights off, the dash instruments work perfectly again.

Any Ideas.

Idea is a bad ground for the instrument panel; I'd first grab the factory service manual from the FAQ here to get wiring diagrams for later, then I'd check the grounding points inside the dash ( there's a cross brace inside, hidden by the knee blocker under the steering column). I'd more bet corrosion/oxidation; may need to loosen the nuts, then tighten them back down.

(Explanation: When the lights are off, the ground is completed through the illumination lights. When you turn the lights on, that ground path disappears; so the instruments quit.)
