Default Starter bolts

Went to Napa auto parts and they didn’t know What size of bolts went on my starter. I looked under there and I’m missing the bottom one so can somebody tell me what size I need for the top and bottom. Thanks

What year, which motor?

*dry* It does vary a small bit over the years.

Also, it's supposed to be a stud. Since it's a 5/8" nut, I presume it's a 7/16 SAE thread; but that's a presumption.

having the stud in there isn't critical... but yeah those bolts are 7/16-14/ Id go to TSC, Rural king, etc for those and go with "grade 5".... you can use "grade 8" and wont hurt anything but it's overkill.... not surprising a parts store wouldn't know what thread size a given bolt on a vehicle might be, unless you get a counterman that happens to be "into" the same brand of vehicle you are working on.... I would go with a flat washer (get the SAE version, they are smaller outside diameter) and a lock washer. lock washer directly against bolt head, flat washer behind.

yup. same as "5.2" (318 cu in) engines have used since the 1960s.... (damn why did they have to confuse everybody by listing them by LITER size?) drives me nuts.

about 1-1/2". Do you have the other bolt? Take it out and use that to compare. the holes in the trans are open at the back so if your bolts are a bit long then no big deal. try to get full thread, not ones that have an unthreaded portion of the shank... you don't want the threads to bottom out without the starter being held tight.
