Default Turn signal lever came loose and now no signals??

hi guys. So my 88 Dakota has a loose turn signal lever and although the signals were working fine still it eventually led to no signals at all. Any tips on getting the broken lever removed and Installing a new one from a parts truck?

Remove the wheel and then what next?

Depends on tilt or non; the exact steps change between the two.

I had that happen; it was the pot metal at the bottom that broke. I wish you the best of luck; it took me a week to find one, which may have been the last one in the USA. Past that, if it's just the lever broken (doubt it, but still, I'm not there!) for the tilt column it's one phillips head screw and the lever arm comes out.

See, what happens is that the turn signal lever cams a piece of pot metal that then swivels the turn signal switch on the tilt column; non-tilt is similar.

I hate to sound like a broken record, but you really Really REALLY need the factory service manual, specifically for this section 8J-1 for how to disassemble the top of the column if it IS just the lever (or "control stalk" as it's known), and section 19, pages 36 (standard) or 44 (tilt) on.

(It's so different between them because the non-tilt is a pure Chrysler design; the tilt is a Saginaw, or GM design, that Chrysler bought to their specs.)

its the tilt version. I don’t have access to the service manual right now but if someone could take a few pics of the pages I would appreciate it! I will buy a manual if I can find one? Not sure where to buy it. I can give my cell number or email if someone could text me pics of the pages regarding this job?

The licensed reproducer is Bishko Books ( http://www.autobooksbishko.com/searc...k&category=All )

The pages are too big to attach here, alas. And it will suck trying to read them on a cell phone, trust me.

Oh, you can also check eBay for old used paper copies of the manual; the disc is (as I type this) on sale for $36.something . If you have a Summit nearby, you may also be able to get them to get it in for you.
