Question Headlight Assembly

Morning all,

I am hoping that someone here can point me in the right direction.

Instead of messing with a restore kit or hiring it out, I have decided to just replace the assemblies as my Christmas present to myself. Have watched several YouTube videos and read articles, I know where the 4 screws are on each assembly to remove it. My issue and the videos and articles make mention of how hard they are to get to and the number of people that don't replace the bottom screws. So how do I get to them? Crawl under the bumper and reach up? Remove the bumper all together? Or something that I have yet to think of?

Thank you for any help you can give me.

Usually, you can reach between the bumper and the headlight door assembly with a long phillips screwdriver.

Unless it's been shoved up by impacts, anyway.

And if it has, loosening the bumper and pulling it down makes enough room.

I'd recommend a MAGNETIZED screwdriver for the bottom screws.

Your other choice is to remove the bumper.

ADDENDUM: Ran across this pic on Facebook. Notice how the bumper sits. I'd have to loosen the right side (left of the picture) and pull it down to reach in there.

Yah, it's a flat face. Still shows what I meant.

Thank Ralph I will look at it again later today and take pictures, heck try to get a screwdriver in there. Don't think the bumper is pushed in, I know I have tapped things with backing up and pulled it out.

Not so much IN as UP.

Loosening it and pulling DOWN on the bumper will increase the clearance.

If you can't get enough clearance, removing the bumper is the other choice.
