Default 1989 dakota 4.7 swap

Hi everyone, I would love some info about swapping a 1999 4.7 liter into my 1989 dakota. I am keeping the 5 speed I just rebuilt. I also have the computer and harness from the donor truck. I would also like to install headers on it. Thanks i will appreciate any help.

I hate to say it, but it sounds like uncharted territory.

Blaze landmarks often, make copious notes and take pictures. Lots of pictures. If in any doubt, take more.

(I have to ask "Why??" because it makes no sense to me, but eh. Not my truck.)

The 4.7 is big and has no advantage over the 5.2. Headers will have to be made. I would be more concerned if it will run with the computer and wiring you have. Computer might need to be flashed.

1999 4.7 was only available in the Grand Cherokee, with an automatic. To mate that to a five speed you may need a computer, surely a fly wheel
and surely crank modifications to allow a pilot shaft bearing. LA transmissions are not directly compatible with the 4.7. You may need a bell housing, transmission and clutch actuating linkage. The 4.7 flies by wire. your 89 didn't.
A 5.7 LA would be an easier road. And depending where you live the challenge of making it emissions legal.
Buenos suerte hermano.
