Default Do 6 bolt 96 stock rims work on a 92

Hi All,

I’m new to DF, and just got my first Dakota (92, V8) that has the 6 bolt rim. I would like to get the stock aluminum rims from the 96, but curious as to why they don’t list them as working on the 92?.

Who doesn't list them as working?

If you mean "They don't list them at XXX", it may just be because, well, they're not a 1992 part number.

But they'll fit and work perfectly; do remember, you're using the same front hub and rotor, and the same rear drum and axle, as a 1996 does.

Yes, I was assuming they worked, but from speaking to auto wreckers around here they would look at their “book” and say they don’t list them for a 92. Just making sure I wasn’t missing anything. After all seems if I want these rims cost me a fair amount to get them!,
thanks.

Yah, the Hollander cross reference doesn't list things unless they ARE an exact part number match.

OTOH, if you check center hole / bolt pattern /offset ... well, shucks, they're the same.

They don't list my 1991 Cougar fitting a 1997 TBird either, even though they have other wheels that are identical.

Decades ago, Hollander was better than it is now. My books go back to the 1920's and come up to the mid 80's. There used to be notes like "Auto wrecker report that this part will fit by removing the upper tab." or "Part # such and such will fit by flipping it over.".

I had a '93 Dakota I bought new. I had the same wheels the OP has now. I didn't care for them and got some off a later model. Either a '95 or '96. They worked fine and bolted right up. They would rub at speed when you unloaded the front end while engaging in...um...spirited driving. I think the rims are a little thicker for strength. I drove it like that for several years and except for no dirt on the upper A frame, I never noticed any wear that shouldn't be there.

That definitely would be nice to have something like that now.
