todays replacement parts (for the most part) are not worth a shyt. No such thing anymore as QC, mostly coming from across the pond. had problems with the headlights on my 96, replaced the switch and needs it again, as the headlights are flaking on me again. New switch lasted about 8 months. Not surprised you could get a bad one outta the box these days.

I feel your pain. I spend an inordinate amount of time searching for parts that I think are of high quality. And I ask the more experienced guys on this forum. I have no doubt this has paid dividends. No doubt in my mind!

I recently bought a new front/left steering knuckle for my wife's Jeep (replacing one that cracked). My choices were a no-name from China, another no-name from China, and another no-name from China. Flip a coin. I picked the one with the fanciest looking photographs. My next post may be from a ditch.

So I have a 2002 dodge Dakota and just all the lights went out headlights taillights brake lights blinkers when I turn the key on the lights come on the dash but that’s it

On a 2002, it's a mite bit more complicated.

Ask in the 2nd Gen forum; but from what I understand (and I could easily be wrong!) most all of that is driven through the CTM, so if all fails, I'd have to check that out.

But again, I could be wrong, not having studied much on 1997+ Dakotas.

The thing is, the ORIGINAL may well have been a no-name from China ...

Very possible. However, I should clarify what I meant. There are no-name parts from China and there are named parts from China. For example, ACDelco has many of their parts made in China. But I feel confident ACD has a QC process in place to ensure their parts are made to their specs. This steering knuckle I bought for the wife's car....the original (OEM) was specified by Daimler who built the Jeep. I will trust Daimler had their QC department qualify their parts more than some no-name parts supplier. Does that mean one can trust Daimler? Not necessarily, but I'll wager my money on Daimler before some no-name. The game is to improve your odds.

The fact that he already changed the switch does not mean that the switch is not the problem when I bought my 95 it had a new switch in the box that came with it to fix the lights to which I replaced later that evening with no change so I did all kinds of troubleshooting within my ability and couldn't figure it out took it to a local auto electric specialist and took him about 30 seconds to tell me that I had two issues one switch wwas bad and two the wiring harness that the switch plugged into was bad I ordered and replaced both and boom problem solved
