Unhappy 1993 3.9l cranking no spark

I have been struggling to get spark on my 93 Dakota Sport, Automatic Trans, that has 183,000km on it for about 2 weeks now so I thought it would be a good time to get some advice.

Some of the issues that led to my no spark: weird gauge activity, the tachometer would be stuck all the way past 6,000 and would every so often start working again. Similar issue with the oil pressure, thermostat, and battery gauge. On the way home from work a few different times the truck would stall and I would have to play around with some wires and I would eventually get it to fire again. I have had no problems with power or mechanical issues. Another thing to note is that the ASD relay has never worked properly so I have been using a jumper wire to bypass the ASD because I couldn’t figure out why it wasn’t working. Now the bypass isn’t working. I got the truck about a 2 months ago and the chap I bought it from was very frustrated because the truck would stall on him half way to work, but he never used the bypass on the ASD relay, and when I’ve been using the bypass it has worked fine until recently. Another thing to note is that the following parts have been replaced recently due to suspicion of them being the cause of no spark: crank sensor, ignition pickup sensor in the distributor, and ignition coil. I have taken much of the wiring harness apart looking for shorts of any kind. Especially all the wires under the power distribution box. One last thing is that multiple nights I left the bypass in and it drained the battery completely. With the bypass plugged in it energizes many things and I’m wondering if this could have been part of the problem.

I looked through your other thread and I wish I had more since I cannot read wiring diagrams but I suggest you get the factory service manual http://www.autobooksbishko.com/Items...ual/15055.html That's the original publisher.
It will have diagnostic procedures in it. I'd restore the original wiring and then try to figure out what the problem the bypass was for. I'd bet there's yer problem

Yeah I actually got a repair manual not to sure if that’s the same as a service manual and I’ll check
it out. Thanks for the reply.

The field service manual tends to be more detailed and more reliable with more information. You can get a CD copy off EBay for around $35ish. Bishkos
