Default Fuel tank compatibility

Hello all,

i got a 1988 3.9v6 LA dodge Dakota needs new fuel tank, has hole. I have access to a 1996 3.9v6 magnum part truck.

Gas tanks compatible? Part numbers are different. If so what are the differences? Aside from engine.

thanks

The part number might be for gallon size or possibly because the holes are different. That year has a very different fuel pump from the 91 or 92 and up. So the hole that goes in might be different. Looking at Mopar parts giant website to see the part diagram they use the same diagram for 88 and for 96.so it didn't really inform the situation.
You can try talking to a dealer parts shop or the mechanics to see if anyone remembers or can find out.
Someone on here knows the names of a couple of junk yard aggregators who sell used parts. Hollander parts is one of them. https://www.hollanderparts.com/used-auto-parts

My truck was stolen years ago. They put a hole in the tank to drain the gas. A friend sealed the hole with a putty type epoxy. Still holding five years later.
