Default Windshield Wiper Bushings

1993 Dodge Dakota LE, 5.2L, A518 Trans., RWD, 185,208 miles, original owner.

I'm sure this has been mentioned 1,000 times so I'll make it 1001. Common problem on many Chrysler products of this vintage. They use all the same parts.

Replaced all 4 wiper linkage bushings. Requires (3) pieces of Dorman #49440 and (1) piece of Dorman #49439.

To remove old bushings: Do what you have to do...cut with utility knife, pull with pliers, force out, whatever it takes. To press in new bushings: Use socket to go over receiving end making sure socket opening is larger than the bushing. Press bushing in using channel locks or vise. I find the vice works a little better. Might need to grow a third hand or rent one from someone else. No need to boil the bushings or microwave them like some people do. Use physics to your advantage and press them in. I smeared a little syl glyde into the cavity of the 49440 bushings to lube it up and reduce wear over time.

Plenty of videos online showing how to remove linkage from truck. Not hard. That is all.

Good deal Bronze. I have an old thread from 2019 "I never thought it would happen" I forgot to pay attention when I took it apart and when I put it back it rubbed. I ended up finding a picture online and got it fixed. White Lithium Grease is what Ralph suggested. I used the vice too.

Yeah, I've seen this one come up a bunch of times 94 but I don't recall seeing anyone mention the part numbers tho I'm betting someone did. Thought I'd mention it again since I just got done with the job. In the 30 years I've had my truck this is probably the 5th or 6th time I've replaced worn bushings. Usually just one of them. Decided to do all 4 this time. Dorman is kind of a hit or miss brand. Some of their stuff works pretty good, others not so much. These bushings are no different. As for the lube, I thought anything non-petroleum would work. Sil Glyde sees lots of water on brake parts and it's kind of thick so that's why I went with it but white lithium is just as good I'm sure. See lots of people use bearing grease or similar and I suspect that might eat the bushing material over time but what do I know.
