Default 1992 Dakota LE V-6 Stutters/Stalls From Dead Stop also Transmission Slip

I had the same problem about 3 years ago. The truck from a dead stop stutters like it's about to stall once I apply the accelerator and give the engine some torque. If I let it roll by idle first I can sort of get away with it not happening. Also at highway speed I noticed it slip like if I was going to accelerate to pass a car or something. That's only happened twice in the last two weeks.

The last time this happened I took it to a transmission shop and they called me back just a couple hours later. They said I was down like 2Qts of transmission fluid, I don't remember the exact number but it was surprisingly a lot. After that though, I have not had this problem for 3 years till two week ago or so. I'm thinking it's got to be the same thing so I check the fluid level the way the book describes to. I run the truck around for like 15 minutes, park on a dead flat surface, cycle through all the gears (reverse BTW is a big THUNK!), put it in neutral with the E-brake on and then check the fluids.

It's up to the full line.

But I'm thinking it just has to be the problem. So I put half a quart in then drive around for a few more days thinking at first maybe it's better but then it's really not so I put another half in and the same thing.

Is it just really hard to get a good reading on checking transmission fluid? I'll probably end up just going back to the shop but it would be a crazy coincidence that after having the fluids filled up last time it worked for three years but was an unrelated issue. At the same time I'm having a hard time understanding what a transmission would have to do with a truck stalling.

The only thing I could find with an Internet research is this and it's very similar to what I am experiencing: https://www.dodgetalk.com/threads/en...o-stop.495761/

Best regards.

Don't know if this has anything in common with your issue but I had stumbling issues coming off idle but only when cold. Replacing the IAC cured it. At least on mine the difference in idling between cold and warm is noticeable. When first started it will idle at about 600 and during that time I had to be careful starting out (mine is a manual) to avoid stalling as depressing the gas too fast would cause the engine to stumble and be very easy to stall it out. After a few minutes and the engine warmed up, the idle speed would drop to about 450 and even turning at that lower speed, the stumbling when pressing the accelerator was gone and stalling was no longer a problem. The IAC fixed that.
