See if you can get a deal on a used Mopar PCM. I picked my last two up for $50 and $100 each. Get a TB from a junkyard, clean it up and port it yourself. Get a K&N drop in air filter and remove the weather plate behind the grille that partially blocks the air intake tube. Relocate your IAT sensor to the intake tube. Get a 3" single exhaust fitted. Magnaflow or Flowmaster mufflers work well. High flow cat if you need to replace your cat and are in an emissions testing state. Get a junkyard fan out of a Ford Contour/Mercury Mystique. It is a dual fan unit that is slim enough to work in our trucks. Ditch the stock clutch fan and wire up the electric in its place. UD pulleys do not give much gains. I would do them last over anything else. Also keep an eye out for any used camshafts. Might get a good deal on a Mopar RT cam, or even a KRC 210x or Comp Cams 604 cam.

You might be able to get most of that done for $500. Exhaust is going to be the most expensive part though.
