Default Reverse problem

Hi guys, I typically hang out in the Ram forums, but I was driving my Dad's 1996 dakota 4x4 with a automatic and been noticing a strange reverse problem.

His garage is on top a slight hill for a drieway. When you start the truck and move the shifter from "P" to "R" and back out of the garage its fine, like its been since day it was new. Now you are sitting on the street and you shift from "R" to "D" and roll into the gas and nothing happens for about 2 seconds and then the foward gear kicks in and you go like normal. That hesitation just started to show up. The wierd thing is that it only happens in that scenerio, when he keeps the truck in his garage. We both have been using it all over town, park it over night and what not, and it never does it unless its like I mentioned.

I checked the fluid levels and they are fine, my first thought was low fluid. The truck has never been abused and only has like 90,000 miles on it. I am out of ideas?

Default RE: Reverse problem

mine takes a second or two to kick into forward gear no matter what the parking condition was-- it could be a number of things i guess.
when i replaced the filter, i was going to adjust the band (service manual says the rear band will cause delayed engagement), but, time was running out, so i had to skip it.
id say if it doesnt bother you or your dad, live with it.
if it bothers you or your dad a lot, have it serviced, or, if you hate dealers like everyone else, PM me and i can tell you what the manual says could be causing it.

Thanks, I suspected it was the band.
It doesn't bother me, but I think its getting on my dad's nerves. He may just have a tranny shop take a look at it.
