transmission whirling noise?
1996 Dakota 4x4, Club Cab, 3.9L, 42RE (A500) 4 speed transmission
After getting off work tonight, started the truck, put it in gear, and the transmission (at least I think its the tranny) makes like a whirling noise, I want to say like a half-open kitchen sink. I would also describe the noise like transmission fluid falling back into the pan.
Anyways, it continues to do this until I hit about 30-35 MPH, and than no problems after that. Noise occurs in Reverse and Drive. Not in park.
It comes and goes at its own pleasure. The last time it did this was about a month ago. When I heard it last time, I put the truck in park, and shifted it back again, and the noise was still there until 30-35MPH.
Other than the noise, no driveability problems. Shifts good, transmission fluid is at correct level, and fluid looks good.
Any ideas?

I had the same problem in my truck which is the same as yours with a 318. All I did was add fluid to correct level. after that it didnt make the noise again but now it doesnt like to shift into 3rd gear unless i make it.
