Default Green triangle in tach & maintenance req'd

Can someone tell me what the green triangle in the tachometer represents? It is between the numbers 0 and 1. I just pulled my instrument cluster out and I noticed that this and the "Maintenance Required" light, don't have sockets (or lights, lol). So just wondering about this triangle. On the same note, does anyone know, if a 1993 Dakota 4x4 would have the maintenance required circuit active (or does this mean that the previous owner got sick of it and pulled it out). Thanks a million

The green triangle is a shift light. As for the maint. Req'd light. I couldnt tell ya. My 92 has a ligt in it. I have never seen it light up...but its there. I know that in my Jeep Cherokee the maint. Req'd light would come on as a preventative maint. thing. Typically when you should change the oxygen sensor. Thats what the book said anyway. Suposedly you need to hook it to a computer to reset it so it isnt on. So it is possible that someone may have "removed" it.

Thanks erock. I thought that the triangle must be a shift light. I guess, that since my truck is automatic, this is not working. Am I right? As to the maint req'r light, I put a socket and light into it and it wasn't on, so assumed that this light may not be connected at all on my truck. Neither illuminates when the ignition is turned on, which I think that it's a good sign that these circuits are not working on my truck. Anybody agree/disagree?

That is a possibility. I dont see why it would have the shift light if it were automatic. Possibly someone swapped that gauge cluster in there or chrysler only made one for all the trucks and only hooked up what it needed. Probly the latter of the two. As for the Maint. Req'd light....I dont know what to tell ya other then I wouldnt worry about it. As long as that check engine light isnt lit up. But thats just me.

Eric

I stumbled upon the maint. reqd light in my haynes manual today. It is for the emission system. Apparently when stuff needs to be checked out it comes on. So I was partially right. Just thought I would let you know.
