95 dakota 4x4 318 oil preassure
I have a 1995 dakota ext cab 4x4 with a 318 magnum in it and the oil preassure
has dropped to where it only stays in the low part of the normal zone. it was
holding fine and then it just started this about a month ago. it is not using any oil.
it has 173000 miles on it now. anyone have any ideas? any help would be great
Thanks,
Mike

The oil pump could be starting to go.. something might be getting clogged. What I would do to save some hassle of removing the pan and doing the work first... Do an oil change, substitute a quart of Marvel Mystery Oil for a quart of oil.. drive it for about 500 miles and change the oil again. MM oil is great for cleaning out the system and coating the engine. I guarentee tons of junk/sludge will come out.. it may make it run better, it may not.. but.. I prefer doing easy things before harder things.
I tryed doing a engine flush today and unfortunatly it did not solve the problem.
The guys that usually do my work that I can not do think that it is a waste of time
to try a oil pump. They think that with 173000 miles that the main and cam bearings
are probably worn down to much. im still considering trying the oil pump before having
a new motor put in though because it still has plenty of power for me.
Thanks for the reply though.

I would definately try the pump first. I just did one on a Dakota with 240,000 miles and it solved the issue. Heck, even stop by the local boneyard.. can't be more than a couple bucks. Good luck!
I had a similar problem with a jeep of mine before. I just got out and wiggled the plug on the oil pressure sending unit. that solved the problem. I dont think bearings wearing out would be an overnight difference in oil pressure. Unless you were beating the crap out of it one day or drove it through a river and didnt change the oil right away. I would think that would occour gradually over a longer span of time then o about a month ago it just started doing this. Other then that I think I would try what he said.....throw in a pump. Either way...it would help more then hurt.
