Default Driving long distance with oil leak

I am planning a weekend trip to Charleston SC which is about 3 hours from where I live. I was wondering if it would be ok to drive my '97 dodge neon that has an oil leak. The rear main seal is out about a quarter inch, so I have to put oil in about every 400 miles. The mechanic told me not to really go more than about 60 mph. The car runs all the time around town. I mean all the time, so I was wondering if I drive halfway to Charleston and stop for a while, and then drive the rest of the way, would it be ok. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Default RE: Driving long distance with oil leak

As long as you top it off and it's not real hot out it shouldn't be a problem. I would check it about halfway or even more just incase it's leaking more than first thought.
