Default Fix or Junk '91 Dakota 4x4 in Accident

Hi, I'm new here, wanted to get some advice. I bought a '91 Dakota LE 4X4 w/76,000 miles 2 Weeks ago. Beauty of a truck, had it less than 1 week when this fool drifts into my lane and slams into my new girl. I had only liability insurance (foolish of me) and the other driver had no insurance, what a surprise.

I believe the frame is bent. Cab and Box no longer sit in the same axis, left front wheel pushed back into fender distorting the axle plane and it's just messed up. The left motor mount appears to be broken, etc.

Aside from the door, windshield, fender, grille and bumper, etc. it doesn't look too bad...

OK, so here's the question, can it be fixed? I mean I know anything "can" be fixed for a price, and I know it will never drive the same again, but what would you do?

thank you,

Dave in Nashville

I would take her to a good body shop to start with. Once you get her straightened back up, you SHOULD be through the rough stuff. Then you go to a mechanic and see what else needs done.
In the way of shops, it all depends on who you know. If you were in the Detroit Area I could give you the names of a few shops, but I know nobody in Nashville.

I hope you can find a way to fix her up.

It's not as bad as it seems... I would definately fix it up do to the motor just being broken in. A friend of mine had his frame straighted for only a couple hundred bucks and his was real bad. Depending how much you want to save, I would just tear it apart, try and see what is with the cab and tear the front end down.. go have it straightened.. get the replacement parts, have whoever paint the insides of the parts, come home.. toss them on and then drive it down to finish the paint. You'll save alot of money. The damage doesn't look like it would have done anything to the engine, etc.. IMO. If you want new parts, go to www.makeitmopar.com... but if there's a U-Pull Boneyard around you.. I'd go pluck the parts for way cheap. Good luck.

Ummm if it was his fault, you should be able to sue his *** to pay for the damages. Even if he has no insurance. I mean dont get me wrong. I'm not on the sue whoever I can for any stupid reason bandwagon.....but you shouldnt have to pay for his dumbass mistake. If sueing him isnt an option...I would at least take my moneys worth out of his ***.
