I have recently aquired an 1988 Dakota 4X4 which was the victim of a theft attempt amd the messed up the shifter pretty bad and now when you try to shift the gears it sometimes goes in and then slips out and others it wont catch unless you play with it abit and when I manually change it with the linkage it does the same thing is my tranny pooched or might it be something simpler like the gear selecter inside the tranny or torque converter


btw my transfer case needs replacing and I was wondering if it was possible to swap a 4X2 tailstock and drive shaft into the 4X4 as a temporary fix and how do I find out the tranny type that I have (ie A500)???
