92 3.9 problems
Whats up everybody, im new here and and going crazy with this 92 3.9 automatic.. The truck is sometimes hard to start, other times it starts right up, it cuts off after running for about a half hour, when its running for that short time it runs great. I have replaced plugs, wires, cap, rotor, coil, crank position sensor, fuel pump, and computer, i also replaced all the splices that usually cause problems. When the truck dies it is usually hard to start sometimes you have to wait until it cools down. its really inconsistant. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
thanks

Hmm.. no good ideas. We have a similar problem with my uncles little Dodge Colt (a small econo-car).
It sure sounds like some type of electrical problem (of sorts) but I would have no idea where it would be occuring at.
When my grandpa looks into the car, hes going to wire up a test light to 1) the coil power, and 2) the fuel system power. Therefor, he will be able to verify if these items are getting power. If one of them cut out, there is a problem somewhere in that circuit. If they both continue to have power, the problem is in another circuit. You may want to try something like this.
You might try replacing the fuel pump relay and automatic shutdown (ASD) relay, but, I doubt that's actually the problem.
Other than the test lights, I can't really point you in a great direction.
Let us know how it comes along!

Almost sounds like my problem. Check for slack in your timing chain. Another thing to check for is the interuptor in the distributor.
Apparently over time the rivets that hold them down will deteriorate allowing this thing to move around. Its under the pickup which is under the cap. Easy to get to and check out.
It definitly sounds to me like it could be your timing chain thoough. Mine had enough slack in it that it would run for a short period of time. Give it gas though and try to drive it and evenually the timing would screw up causing it to run like crap or shut down. This is because the camshaft is the allowed then to get ahead of the crankshaft or vise versa. sometimes it would be hard to start since the timing was off a hair and other times it would start up easily because the timing was close enough too. It all depends where things fall when the things gets turned off.
