Default having problems bleeding the brakes

I've just finished doing my rear brake system. New cylinders and shoes, Now I'm trying to bleed the brakes. I had some one pump the brake pedal and then hold it down while i opened the valve but there;s nothing coming out? I filled the master cylinder and checked it over and over. The fluids not going down in the master cylinder but it's not coming out of the bleeder valve either? what do I do?

I've never bled brakes before, mind you. But, these are the steps as-per the service manual.
1.) remove filler caps and fill reservoir with brake fluid.
2.) if caliper or wheel cylinders were overhauled, open all the caliper and wheel cylinder bleed screws. Then close each bleed screw as fluid starts to drip from it. Top off the master cylinder reserviour once more before proceeding.
3.) attach one end of bleed hose to bleed screw and insert opposite end in glass container partially filled with brake fluid. Be sure end of bleed hose is immeresed in fluid.
4.) Open up bleeder, than have a helper press down the brake pedal. Once the pedal is down close the bleeder. Repeat bleeding until fluid stream is clear and free of bubbles. Than move to next wheel.

From what you said versus what the steps are, you need to have the person pump the brakes, than have them hold the pedal down. Open the bleeder, and once air/fluid has stopped flowing, close the bleeder valve and have the helper slowly release brake pedal. Repeat the procedure until clear, bubble-free fluid flows out of the bleeder valve. (From what you said, it seems like your not repeating the steps until the air is purged).

Gravity Bleeding is a simple one-man procedure, but it takes a while.
Basically it is just steps 1 and 2 above - doing one at a time, starting with the farthest from the master cylinder working to the wheel closest.

Ah. Seems straight-forward.
I need to do some brake work in the near future (my e-brake cable is rusted up and won't engage), and need to look at my rear shoes.
I also wanna bleed the system because I have a feeling it needs it. And I need to replace brake booster and/or master cylinder (because its all rusted up). I'll stop thinking now...

while someone holds the pedal down hard open the bleeder until the pedal hits the floor, then close the bleeder and let up on the pedal. have them pump again and hold it and repeat the process, it can take 30 or more times until you stop seeing air come out and several times before liquid starts to come out. start with the passenger side rear, then the drivers side, then the front passenger side, then the front drivers side. be vocal, you dont want the pedal pusher releasing the pedal before you close the bleeder, and its good to have a third person watch the reservior and make sure it stays full, if it gets empty you just put air back into the system

I once had this bright idea to bleed my brakes by myself with a shop vac. Yeah......it got messy, but it worked. Having someone pump the pedal for ya is the best method in my book.
