are you sure it engages. try engageing it and get some one to look at the front drive shaft as you drive ahead. and If it is engaged then it probly has something to do with your locking hubs.

and mine didn't work in my 82 dodge ram. cause when I got the tranny rebuilt the shop didnt put the front drive shaft back in[:@]. but thats probly not your problem.

If I am thinking right, I think the front hubs are controlled by a vacuum actuator. Maybe one of the lines are broken or missing. I know this was a problem with the Jeeps that have a similar setup. They make a kit to make it manual and eliminate the vacuum controls to it. I have seen them on ebay and in a couple different four wheel rags at the local newstand.

Hope this helps.

I had the same problem that I just fixed. My 4x4 is also actuated by a vacuum line. Ther are three lines coming from the transfer case one of which will engage the hubs. If you attach one of your vacuum lines to this it will engage the hubs. This worked for me. Although I have not reconnected the other lines I do know that my 4x4 will work. I just have to figure out why it was not working to begin with.
