Default Dakota 318 vs. Ram 318???

I'm looking for a 318 for my Dad's '96 1/2 ton. I have located a 318 from a Dakota. Is the Dakota and 1/2 ton 318 the same from the intake down or are there some differences? I'd like to unbolt the blown up 318 and replace it without a bunch of undoing and redoing parts. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Well 8 years later I want to know the same thing haha, only in reverse. I want to put a 318 out of a Ram into an 88' Dakota....anyone?

I wouldn't doubt that theres a write up about this already lol. IIRC there are some clearance issues hence the facelift when they started putting in V8s from the factory but I believe it's still possible by using an electric fan and some other minor differences.

That is literally the only thing I have heard about the swap haha; dropping the mechanical fan for an electric.

Lol yeah I think thats the main thing. Other than that, I'm not sure if the motor will just bolt in or if you'll need to make or move motor mounts.
