Default new problem with the "mystery machine" AKA 89' dak

after about 30 minutes of driving my 89' v-6 , once it gets hot [not overheating] if i turn it off it does not want to start. if i turn the key off for a few, it will start after doin' that once or twice. yesterday, i tried that trick 4-5 times, would'nt start. so i popped the hood , nosed around a bit, and noticed the coil was pretty hot. this is a new coil, and i am thinkin' this might be what shortened the previous coils life span! any ideas what might be causing the coil to get so hot?[:'(]

Default RE: new problem with the "mystery machine" AKA 89' dak

the coil as a rule will last a long time if yours is getting hot that aint good if there is a warranty replace the coil that may be your problem you also may want to check your battery, battery cables, and plug wires specifically the coil wire. if it's bad it can cause the coil to overheat...of course by virtue of the fact that a dakota coil is mounted on the firewall it will feel hot on the outside not necessarily inside.also there is the possibility that one of the relays Under the hood, driver side, rear side of fenderwell, mounted in corner relay panel that's your starter relay it may be getting hot and giving you grief...hope this helps
