Emergency brakes stuck on

Default Emergency brakes stuck on

I recently had someone borrow my truck and they fell the need to use the emergeny brakes which I never use and now I cant get them to release even tho the emg pedal is coming back up when I pull the handle.How can I release them?

You will probably need to get into the drums and take apart the parking brake stuff.
I've heard of this happening (on every vehicle my grandpa gets one of the first things he does is cut the cable to prevent that from happening).
Which reminds me, I need to fix my parking brake.

Hey man thanks for the reply you're awsome!!!!! Would it be safe to just go under the truck and cut the cable say in the middle or what. By the way im an older guy and I too served my country in the armed forces and I want you to know Im prous of you and all of the men and women of the United States Amed Forces!!!!!!! God Bless all of you.

You can try that. You might have to get into the brake drums, however.

Don't cut the cable!!!!--the problem is in the leads going into the backing plate on the drums. I had the same exact situation with mine. The cables rust inside the leader tubes and hang there because the return spring isn't strong enough to pull them back out. I ended up rebuilding both sides on mine. The hardest part is getting the drums off. The kits needed can be purchased from Autozone or the like type of auto parts store.
