First Gen 4x4 vacumn question
on a '95 4x4, does the front axle have a "pie tin" shift motor like my '89? On this '95 that I bought, there is a single line going into the disconnect housing, unlike my '89 that has two. Also, the disconnect housing lacks any other external features.
This all goes back to the fact that the front axle on my truck apparently was disabled by removing the vacumn line to the front axle. Evidently the axle has broken somewhere and the former owner just cut the line. The vacumn was capped off at the reservoir ball.
So much for the dealer trying it out. Yeah right! he swore up and down it was working when he got the truck...duh, dude, not without a vacumn line to the front axle it wasn't. Sheesh! Anyway, I don't know if it is just one line to the disconnect housing or not.
I jacked the front right tire up and attached a piece of tubing from the reservoir ball to the single nipple on the disconnect, and threw the lever in the cab. The wheel locked in 4wd...great i thought, I fixed it, and let the truck down to try out in the yard. Unfortunately with the weight of the truck on it the same old popping and clunking occured.
When I spin the front right tire, there is a grating noise. I guess I will have to dive in there and see what all is broke. Could be a long winter!
I could just about strangle that "dealer". Damn crook is what he is. Someone told me he is real big in the church too...unbelieveable.
