Default Proper plastic paint prep?

When prepping my rearview mirrors and plastic rollpan for painting is there anything I need to know to do it properly? I figure a fine sanding, then some of that prep stuff they put on before painting (can't think of the word), then the paint itself... am I missing anything? They don't need to be primed do they? One last thing...has anyone ever bothered to paint the front side of the rearview inside the truck? Just thought it would be a unique touch. If I don't get it painted with the rest of the truck maybe I can get my other buddy toairbrush onsome green flames for me!

I'm not a body guy. but I painted my 88 dak myself. and yes you have to prep the plastic really good or else it will just chip off. iirc there is a special primer for plastic parts. and if your talking about painting the rearview mirror. just take it out of the truck to paint it. but dont forget to prime it too.
