Default Dying Dakota

I have a 1995 Dodge Dakota Ext. Cab 4x4 and when I am driving it will just die and when I try to start it again it has to sit for a while then it will start again. We replaced the fuel pump hoping it was that and it did do good for a little while then it starting do it again. If anyone can help me that would be great because this is annoying.

sounds like yer problem may be the HEP(hull-effect pickup) relay under the distributor is the engine the V6 or V8? when it does this u should also check to see if the engine has spark

Yea, like lesimon said, it could be the sensor under the distributor (usually refered to as the camshaft position sensor, sometimes called the hall-effect device, or distributor pickup assembly).
You also might want to see if the PCM has any stored codes by following the steps here, and post what codes are given.

Thanks for the help!!!! It is a V-6 and I am not sure if it has spark or not. It will just die while driving and you have to let it sit for a while. Sometimes I can spray starting fluid in it and it will start and then other times it will not start at all.

I had this problem in my old 88. driving along and it would just die, like you shut off the ignition, Did all the normal stuff, fuel filter, plugs wires, cap, door handle, carpeting etc. finaly took it to the dealer. And I am a 2 year grad of a local Automotive school, But was at the end of the road. They were able to fix it but not from they high price diagonstic skills, the fact that they were a dealer and have seen this before many times. It was the Hall effect switch. All fixed. They were not able to get the truck to stall, but repalced it on the basis of, It happened to alot of trucks theory!

I think the pickup coil/ hall effect is the most common problem lately.

Oddly enough I had to let my truck sit 124 miles from home;the cause pick up coil I think if a person buys a used Dakota the first part they should purchase is a pick up coil.
