Default new starter

ok, so my starter finally crapped out today.

well... actually it broke the casing with a hammer when I was hitting it.[:@]

anyways, I phoned around at all the local junkyards and only 1 of them had a starter for it. so I went and picked it up for $40and it looked bigger then mine. well I didnt think anything of it. so I take it out to the shop and then I notice it's not the right one. I gues my origional one is a gear reduction starter. and it was a tight fit in there. so I attempted at putting in the starter from the bottom and it wouldn't fit. so I just took a pry bar and moved some stuff outta the way for it to fit from the bottom and she slid right in. and bolted up fine.

I guess my question is whats the difference between the 2 starters.

Thats a good question. I don't know why there would be a differance between the two differant starters (I know they make differant types of starters, but I don't feel like reading right now, I'm watching Law and Order).
Can't beat using "back yard" techniques!
