check engine light/overcharging
I almost am ready to give up. Its not the new alternators(3);its not the battery (2).Some say its the emission control(oxygen sensor?) its not the computer(newer one installed) so what is it? The light goes on after a couple of minutes driving. It goes on when the battery gauge goes to the end of the bracket. The tester shows the batterey cycles from 13.8 to 16 volts. The alternators are from Advance. Some say you have to buy 5 to get one good one? help122,000 miles

RE: check engine light/overcharging
I can now answer my own problem so other dakota owners will learn. It was the the junk yard computer that i purchased for $20. I assumed my computer was bad...it was. But if I would of purchased a new or reman computer from napa the problem would be solved. Now since its at the dealer,it will cost $1000. That includes a $550 computer and almost three hours of diagnostic charges. If i would of bought a battery,an alternator and a computer ,I would of found the problem and saved money.
