emissions probolems
Ihave a 91 dakota with a 318 and im having probolems getting it to pass emissions when i got the truck it was blowing carbon out of the tail pipe but that went away after doin about 100 down the expressway but is still running rich and getting really bad gas mileage it only gets about 100 miles to a tank if im lucky has any one else had this probolem that would know how to fix it if you did please let me know thank you
I had the same problem with my 99 not passing the e-test and I was getting horrible milage. I did a tune up on it and it made it worse. so I changed the O2 sensors and it runs soo much better now. waiting till summer when it comes back out to see if it will pass now.
I couldnt understand how my 88 dak thats been beat to hell will pass with flying colours and my 99 failed by alot. but I guess 1 sensor will do that.
but I thnk its your O2 sensor. just replace the front one before the cat and you'll be fine. they never really give a code when they go either.

.
had that problem too, our mech. ran a diagnostics and all that stuff and replaced the O2 sensor and the t-stat, also reset the codes. also our mech said to run premium gas would help it. after all this it ran better, changed the oil, plugs and wires. buy 2 cans of that b-12 chemtool, put one in the tank and the other in the oil(run for 5 min then drain the oil)when you change the oil. it helps get rid of all the carbon build up
Could be worse, when I bought my truck I was told it had passed emissions a few months prior. So I shot in to get it done and she failed by a ton.
I had to replace the empty cat,do a complete tune up,replace the O2 sensor, replace the egr valve, fuel filter, totally clogger K&N filter replace the TPS and the idle air control valve
Then she passed with flying colors, but that was after about $450 worth of work.
But even after all that seems like I have a fuel leak near the tank and I am gettin about 100 miles to the tank as well. I know he told me it had a new fuel pump put on just before i bought it, but who really knows after all I went thru to pass the e test, being told it would pass easy.
