Default Butterfly valve in exaust manifold?

hi everyone, i have a 1988 dodge dakota sport 3.9 and everytime i let off the throttle or rev it, it makes a wierd noise.. ive narrowed the noise coming from this valve in the headers right before the exaust.. it has a coil and i think thats what is making this noise. It is really bugging me and its done this ever since ive had the truck.. if anyone could tell me what this is and how to fix it that would be great! thanks

are you talking about the EGR or maybe a hot air injection system?

Dude, I can't make heads or tails of your post. A picture might help, but there are no butterfly valves or any other kind of valve (except the EGR, but your truck is too old to have one) in the exhaust. The only thing I can think of that would make a strange noise like your describing would be an exhaust leak. Also, the coil is an electrical component that makes no noise.

The first thing I can think that your talking about is an exhaust brake or something along that line. A few 80's vehicles had them (All there crazy emissions systems.). I don't think the Dakota has one. I may be wrong. It may be the EGR or the Air pump system you are talking about. Take a picture!

a location might help, if i remember what i heard correctly only the Canadian models had and air pump system, and the California models were probably different as well.

It's a heat riser .The only way to fix it is remove the manifold. You can knock out the rusted out disk with a long rod .Plug the shaft hole by swagging in a brass rods or drill and tap the holes.
