Default Nv4500 thread

Ok, so Ill post my relevant stuff here.

First of all to those who asked. The main body is aproximately 14 inches tall from floor to average spot on the top of the body. It is 17 inches from floor to the shifter inlet. The whole assembly, minus bellhousing, measures 42 inches long.

Im going to get a SYE kit for the 241, as I hate slip yokes. that should make it a few inches shorter.

As of right now it appears I may be able to use the transmission as is. But Ive also been told that IF I need to switch the input shaft it wont affect anything else. IE the case and everything will function with no further modifications.

Opinions. Black or blue enamel paint for the tranny and case?

More info. I have the numerically spaced early GM model. Meaning I have a 6.3:1 1st gear instead of the 5.3:1 that all the dodge and the later GM models run. The other thing this transmission has is a different main bolt pattern. The bolts on this transmission are just over 4" apart top to bottom. All the dodge and later gms had a bolt spacing of just over 6" apart top to bottom.

Courtesy of db's pics from his thread, I answered my main question about this swap. I was afraid I wasnt going to be able to mount this transmission to a dodge bellhousing. And his pic answered that. If you look at his picture youll note that the top two holes are the same as mine. But the bottom two are two inches lower and slightly more centered. So all I need to do is get a dodge bellhousing, bolt it on with the top and drill my bottom holes.

Its coming along. Im prepping it to paint now. 3 coats of primer and black enamel is the ticket for this one.

Pics to follow, and Ill toss in the token pic of my exploded jeep np231 just for fun.

Ok fellas. Here ya go. Need to hand clean it a bit then shoot it with primer/enamel.

Should have it all prettied up tomorrow. If you look at DB's picks youll see where my bolt holes and his are different. And that a simple redrill will be sufficient.

The new toy and its blown up case.

That is a beast of a transfer case behind that 4500! I really want to find an NP242 for my truck (the all wheel drive version of that 241 you got there).

Lol, I think a chunk of aluminum and some JB weld should do the trick on that jeep JK skyshark!

Yeah that thing is monsterous. And has a mighty low gear ratio. Yay for 37's spinning really fast.

Im not a fan of full time 4. My wifes cruiser has it. Its nice for driving in snow and ice, but sucks for mileage.

Lol.. yeah....I was thinking a trash bag and duct tape should do it. Your idea sounds stronger though, maybe Ill go that way. Actually a buddy of mine has the hook up and is getting me a case tomorrow for 50 bucks.

Lol, he knows I'm just messing with him. But that actually is pretty bad... there's no repairing that case and expecting it to hold up... he'll have to find a new one.

Actually, skyshark, I was thinking about getting one once I have the new 2wd finished, that way I can have a high traction work horse and a high powered rear wheel drive for fun. But your right, if I got that route, I'll have 2 trucks that will be terrible on gas.
