Default New Over head console install with pics.

I was at my local U-PUll it looking for a stock automatic transmission shifter rod for a body lift delete. I found an overhead console from a 95 Dodge Dakota with compass and temperature. I pulled the entire console and support bracket and the sensor along with an automatic darking rear view mirror (which I doubt I'll use, since I have a lighted rear view mirror from my TA) and all the wiring for it all, all for $25.

I already had installed an over head console with a pocket and lights. But when offroading everything in the pocket jumps out. Since it was from a Dakota the mounting was easy and the console fits the roofs contour. Wiring was easy since I only needed to wire up 4 wires plus the ground which was easy (Ground, all time +, + with key on, and the 2 wires to and from the ambient temp sensor). I decided to cut out the back end of the console. I don't care for the garage door opener pocket and the sunglasses pocket which doesn't even fit a good pair.

Here are a few pics.

Old console that I fabbed up from a 90's Chrysler New Yorker.

Bracket mounted up.

New console installed and working properly.

No not all 95's. It was an option on 95-96 only I think. Maybe 94 not to sure though.

ah alright, hopefully one of the 7-8 95 daks at the yard has one cause thats pretty snazzy

also where do you run the wires for it? down the pillars on one side perhaps? pics of that would be pretty awesome, then this could be added to faq2 under DIY!

I have one from my 94, but it needs to be reuppholstered. They also show gas mileage, which i didn't even know they did on any non-luxury cars back in those days.

As for wires I just ran them back to connect to the stock dome light output then to just down the side and down following the stock wiring.

I already got the headliner installed and all the panels back on. But since it was a factory Dakota option it is an easy install if you get everything you need.

I can try to take a larger shot tomorrow.

I reupholstered this one.

You sure yours does gas mileage? Mine doesn't and the 95 and 96 Dakota factory service manuals don't state it, or even have wires to connect to the PCM or the speedo, as well as the 96 Owners manual I got don't state anything about MPG.

Any idea if the 97+ ones can be wired in to work correctly on OBDI?
