Jaymzz,

Making your Durango breathe easier is the cheapest and easiest mod as a first mod. You can start with a oem replacement K&N air filter for around $60. Or go with a cold air intake kit. If you like to stick with the OEM name under the hood, Mopar makes Cold air intake kits as well.
Next would be uprading your exhaust to compliment your air intake mods. Better performing muffler or even do to true duals if it is in your budget. GSM makes true duals direct bolt on for gen1 durangos. Next is replacing the throttle body with a bigger one.

Can you post up a link to GSM? I can't seem to find the 1st gen bolt ons.

I have a Borlatrue duel exhaust part# 140111on my SRT-10 and the K&N CAI.
I think it is the best way to go but that is just me. I also have it on the HEMI, but the
exhaust is a Flowmaster with the K&N CAI.

And after all of that get a high flow cat if you don't have to worry about emissions. Getting some bigger gears in the diff/s is a good step but can be very costly especially if you have 4wd/awd as you would have to change both the front and rear gears.
You mention high flow cat if you DON'T have to worry about emission. Isn'tthe purpose of high flow cats to stay within the emission laws? Otherwise couldn't you run without them?

Some high flow cats can actually cause your vehicle to be out of emissions specifications because it will not be able to burn off the excess pollutants that supposed to be within specifications of your vehicle design.
