Thermostat Location
More info needed.
If you have a 5.9L, then take off the TOP radiator hose. The end opposite the radiator is the water neck. Under the neck is the stat. It should be held in place by two 7/16th bolts and a long extention on your ratchet. No need to remove or move anything else.
A new 180 stat costs about $10 and a stat gasket is $1. Fill the hole with a rag and scrape off the old gasket before putting the new one in place. A small dap of gasket goop will hold the gasket in place while putting everything back together. Get a replacement stat that fails in the OPEN position. BTW, it's a good time to replace the upper radiator hose ($45) and the OEM dealer hose is the best you will find out there period.
If I could ever figure out why this forum doesn't allow me to post pictures (ALWAYS the same thing, "Result: There was an error saving the file to disk.") I'll post a simple diagram to help you visualize it all. If you want to email me, I'll send it to you that way.
Total time to replace the stat, 30 minutes.
HTH,
IndyDurango
(EDIT: The inability to post an attachment or a photo is an incompatibility with this forum software and the browser Apple's Safari v.2.0.4. I edited the message in Microsofts old version of Internet Explorer v.5.2.3 and the attachment works. Sucks because I am NOT going to switch back to IE just to read the forum. I've used Safari for over 2 years so the error os on the Forum side, not in the browser.)
