Default engine backfires, and eratic idle.

I bought a 2000 dodge durango (96k miles), with blown head gakets. I replaced the head gaskets and also put in other heads (HO High Output).
It starts, but idles erratically (inconsistent) kinda has a little vibration. It also backfires sometimes. Also when you press the gas pedal, it does not give enough gas and also gives it late. I checked all my spark plugs and coils work. I also pluged in a OBD II Tool and it said No faults detected.

Help please

Check your fuel preesure and a tune up sounds in order.

What engine are you working with? The 5.9 or 4.7? Since you said coils, I assume the 4.7as the 5.9 only has one.

If by chance it is the 5.9, sounds like you might have one or more plug wires in the wrong order either on the dist cap or engine.

If it is the 4.7, then you had to remove and re install the timing chain and possibly it is not in the correct position.

Provide more info and we can give more suggestions.

The engine is a 4.7 V8. I just checked the timing and its perfect.

I when i changed my heads The other ones that i put it said HO (High Output). My originals did not say that, but are the same. I put in my original cams too. The HO heads had a little diffrent springs, that i used and the haudraulic lifter that used too.

What is the diffrence between HO and the orignal heads? could this be my problem?

Thanks

ytchernov:
Sounds like you ended up with a pair of the HO heads from a Grand Cherokee. Do you have a vacuum guage to put on it to see if you might have a leak?
If the timing chain is ok, then that rules that out. Have you run compression test to make sure the new heads/valves are ok??

As long as the heads are ok physically, I do not think they would be the cause of the issue unless again there is a vacuum leak due to a different gasket requirement or such.

So these HO heads DO NOT require any other HO parts like Cam shafts?
