Default Tire size ?

Just picked up a 98 Durango and need recommendations on tire size.
It has Cooper 31x10.5R15's.
I never had a tire this size and was wondering what is the diff between the 235/75SR15 and this size?
Any recommendations?
No off roading.

I have bfg at ta ko's and am now a bfg guy. These tires really impressed me. You may want to look into some long trails (but even without offroading my tires have excellent road manners, much better than the stock goodyears ).

The OEM tires were 235/75/15. I'm running 265/75/15's and they look great compared to the skinny 235s.

Im sure I will be corrected if I am wrong, which I will gladly admit to, but I don't think you can run the 235s on the rim you have. I have the 31.5 x 10.5s and just put a new set of Michelins (spelled right???) on and was told that the guy in the bay next to me at the time had tried to put 235s on the 10 inch wide rim and they blew off a mile down the road...that rim is too wide. There were two different tire/wheel sizes available on the D....just my two cents....

Some calculations on tire size

235/75 15
Overall diameter28.87 in
Tread Width 9.25 in
Sidewall Height 6.93 in

31/10.50 15
Overall diameter 30.97 in
Tread Width 10.51 in
Sidewall height 7.98 in

If your truck came with 31 10.50's and you reduced it to 235's your speedo would be 5 mph fast.
your gas mileage might decrease too, because of the ratio change, and higher revs.
