Default custom air intake

this has probably been asked before. but has anyone done a custom air intake using their own materials?

i want to do something similar to the K&N but using a peice of 3"stainless steel instead and maybe placing it better. my dads a machinist so getting it made the want i want wont be a problem.

i know Mean Green did something like this also, but i think he used the factory air intake box bottom portion.

but if anyone could chime in on how to locate it properly inside my engine compartment or has pics of the K&N system installed and are willing to post them. it would help me tremendously in getting mine designed and made.

I'd say look through the gallery for some D's You will find the pics you need for the K&N. You could also take a look at ebay and the way their CAI's are set up.
