Default Changed Rear Differential Fluid

I useda Mighty Vac to pump out the rear diff. fluid and it worked very well. Was very shocked to find the rear did not have a threaded plug for refill, it only has a rubber stopper on the panfor servicing. This is on a 2wd 2000 Durango, no leaks but that rubber stopper doesn't seem very substantial.

I serviced mine and it has slow leaked since. Not enough to matter, but enought to discolor the rear end.
Did you do anything special to keep it from leaking?

I just cleaned the plug real good before putting it back in. If it eventually shows sign of leakage then I may put some silicone rtv around the lip of the plug.

Change the rear dif cover with one that has a thread plug. Very easy, looks better, cheap, and problem solved.

Do these rear ends have a vent hole?
