Default Spare Tire Problem

Hello All, New to the forum. And here is why...

I went to remove the spare tire from my '01 D and while I was doing the "lowering" thing the piece that fits into the slot in the bar busted off. Any one ever have this happen or know what I'm going to need to do next?

Fortunately there should I should be able to make it to a tire shop in the morning to fix the bad tire, but I'm still gonna need to fix this problem.

Thanks in advance for your help.
Now that I know you guys are here I'm sure I'll be visitnig alot.

This happened to me also but I just took a hell of a set of pliers and cranked the tire back up. I haven't touched it since.

Nothing wrong with using some moster pliers, I dont plan on getting a flat but if I do I can get it off my self and if not then I have AAA or tell a freidn to get me, either way it wont be there longer then a few hours, MAX
