HELP on Service 4WD Light!
I just had my '01 Durango tranny rebuilt (46RE) a few weeks ago at 94,000 miles and today the truck automatically switched into 4HI and the "Service 4WD" came on. I didn't get any codes from the dash odometer. The electronic switch was still turned to 2WD but the light for the 4HI light was. Moving the switch would not disengage the 4WD. Finally turned the truck off and restarted - no service 4WD light on the dash and the 4WD was disengaged. However, whenI test drove again, the 4WD engaged automatically again to 4HIwhen I was slowing down to ~10 mph and making a turn.
Anyone have any advice to the problem? Could this be related to the tranny being recently rebuilt?

God bless the floor shift transfer case! My old man had the transfer case go on his blazer last year, and then a week later the electronic switch went - $800 later, the 4wd shifted properly.
i had a similar issue, get under the truck and move the wireing harnesses for the t-case, one of the plugs is prolly being pulled, make sure everything is connected properly and that nothing is binding
Thanks for ya'lls help. Probably something totally coincidental but I am going to throw it out there anyway. Icouldneverget the 4WD to disengage usingthe selector switch.By chance I turned theA/C off so I could listen to the engine. After that, low and behold, it switch into 2WD when I switched to that position. Anyways the Durango has not automatically popped into 4WD the past two days until lunch today. The A/C was on.I turned the A/C off and tried switching the switch over to 4HI and then back to2WD and it worked. I kept the A/C off during my lunch break driving around and the 4WD never engaged. Surely the A/C being on is not causing this but who knows. However, only time it has ever happened is when theA/Cis on.???
