Default engine trouble

Ok, so a friend of mine has a 2002 dodge durango, 170000 miles and it doesnt run. He was driving and lost power and white smoke started comming from under the hood. he had it towed home.

Now, when he changed the oil there was water in the oil and when he refills the radiator it seems like it doesnt want to fill up. also when he tries to turn it over it sounds like the engine is struggling. I suggested it was a headgasket. and he says it could be a cracked block which I agree with also. anyone else have this problem? and what can he do to fix it? or should he just get a new engine?

alright, and I wouldnt say the block was deff cracked, if it was a head gasket there still would be a noticable ammount of water in the oil, the biggest symptom is the fact that the engine struggles when it's turned over meaning one of the cylinders is waterlogged and since water cant be compressed it locks up the engine. so we're pulling the plugs and turning it over to see what cylinder it is then we'll pull the head off and have some fun XD

We pulled the plugs and found out that both the 5th and 6th cylenders were filled with water. almost identical on each side. so I believe that the headgasket is cracked on both sides, same cylender.

usually when you have a bad gasket, it would be wise to inspect the head and block to make sure they are okay and do not have any micro-fractures that may come up and haunt you in the future.

will do, he's having to towed to a shop. there was alot of water in there for about 2 months, he might have to have the whole thing rebuilt or just scrap the engine
