Default 2001 Durango Tranny Problems

Hey - New to the board and really needexpert help. My 2001 with 168K miles has been great butI've recently had some problems with the transmission. If it sat for a while overnight, when you'd start it the next day and put it in gear, its like the transmission slips a bitbefore it takes hold. I took it to the shop and had them change the fluid thinking this would help. That was 2 weeks ago. It did not help, in fact the problem has grew much worse. Not only does it take a while to get moving after just sitting a few hours, when you take off, it's like it's towing a heavy loador like it is in a higher gear than it is supposed to be. When you get up to about 60 or so, it does not go into overdrive. Could this be a sensor problem? Thanks for the help.....

First, try replacing the speed and output sensors. Then take your D to a tranny shop to have your bands adjusted, etc.

I bought a code reader (because the Check Engine light started coming on). I'm getting code P1784 - Pressure Switch Circuit LR.

I was looking through a Haynes manual that I have and it does show how to adjust the bands. But I have never tried it before and I wonder how easy it is.

your problem is the check valve near the tranny cooler is stuck open, draining out your converter when it sits. try this... fire it up, put it in neutral for about 15~30 seconds, then drive and see if the problem goes away. I'll bet it does. if it works fine then you found the problem.
