Default Hypertech III programmer

Alright, after my first week running premium fuel and I have set the programming for 93 octane, these are the results:Power: Definitely noticed a increase in performance and response time. As I was looking to see if there was an improvement in fuel usage, I did not play too much. But on my last few gallons of the good stuff, I decided to play. Just regular everyday driving, you will notice quicker response from engine at all throttle levels. But when I had to drop the pedal to get on the freeway, I can really feel the Durango reach my desired speed very quickly. MPG: An improvement. Not much but better than none or less than original. I avg .5 mile better improvement. This may be because the programming was set for 93 octane so I guess this setting is the very agressive setting and MPG is not a factor when using this setting. This improvement of MPG was with A/C runningall the time. DFW been getting pounded with rain this whole summer so it is way too humid outside to not use A/C.This week, I refueled my D with 87 octane. I reprogrammed my D to use 87 octane now. My first 20 miles of driving, I was worried about engine pinging as I never used 87 octane and my stock settings required 91 octane or higher. But no pinging. Under normal everyday driving, everything still seems to run fine. I still notice the better throttle and acceleration response under the 87 octane as I had when it was under 93 octane. So I would say that hypertech is living up to its claims on their unique dual fuel tuning. I'll let you know if the 87 octane setting has a better mpg improvement over the 93 tuning.

Hypertech engineered this thing so you cannot pass this programmer from vehicle to vehicle without having to revert your 1st programmed vehicle back to stock settings.

So before you sell it or let someone else try it out, you have to revert your D back to stock settings.

Overall, for me, it was worth the $299 price mainly because I don't have to purchase premium fuel anymore!!! .20-.30 cent per gallion difference in regular and premium fuel saves me a few dollars or more on a full tank refill and over a short period of time, will pay off this programmer in less than a year for me!

But I must admit, I do love the new quicker engine responses with the new programming!

My D says 87 octane in the manual (2000 D 5.9L 4wd) so would there be any real advantage to this gizmo?

Vydor you'll probably have to wait for a week to get that answer to see if the fuel savings will be substantial enough with the 87 tune. I want one!

One thing that sucks here is that I couldn't even use the 93 tune when I get a programmer because all of the gas stations hereonly have 87, 89, and 91... I guess I could always buy that "for offroad use only" octane booster but I could see that getting expensive real fast...

If you read Hypertech's performance info, it's shows that the difference between performance gains for the 87 oct setting and the 93 oct setting is minimal. So unless you're doing some serious drag racing, the difference according to the numbers is not noticable except for gasoline expenses.

Hell I can't even run 87 now, Iget pinging with it, I just switched to 89 and that's working out for me.

I ran a full tank of 90somthing (what ever Exxon calls supreme) and a full tank of 87 back to back this week and could not tell any difference with stock programing.
