Coolant Flush...
Hey, I'm new to this board. I just bought a 2002 Dodge Durango SXT in great condition. Has about 58,000 miles on it.
Since I'm not sure when the coolant was changed last by the previous owner, I'd like to get it changed. If I do it myself, what are the steps for getting it done? What kind of coolant should I buy?Don't you add new coolant through the overflow?
Any info appreciated. Thanks!

I Just did the same with my 01 SLT. I opted to go with the Peak Global G05 coolant which is amberin color, and good for life.
I would not recommend running it that long, but it should go 5 yrs/100k with no problems.
To flush,Itemporarilyinstalled one of the Prestone T- pipes between the metal and hose where crosses the engine on the driver side. I flushed until the water coming out of the radiator neck was clear.
Since you will not be able to easily remove all of the flushing water from the system, I recommend you use full strength antifreeze regardless of brand so that you do no end up with too much water in there like I did the first time.
I wanted to get away from the old green stuff since it only lasts 3yrs and 30k or so. There is green coolant on the market that will go 5 yrs/100k now, so it's up to you as to what you put back in. If you decide to drain some of the water out before you refill, pulling the lower hose from the engine block is pretty simple.
Good luck Don
