Default Engine Surge and Idle Problem

I've got me a 2000 Durango with a 4.7L V-8. I started having problems a week ago with the engine fluttering when it was idling (900-1,100RPM) The Check Engine light came on intermittently. Then The light started staying on (I don't have a code reader at the moment) but I found a vacume hose that had come off the light has stayed off since I replaced it, but now the idle is getting worse it flutters between 700-2500RPM I have a limited knowlage and figured I'd see what you all thought before I went through with my ideas.

I would try changing the TPS. Also if the CEL is still on you can pull the code off of the odo. Just turn the key to the on position then off 3 times. On the 3rd time leave it in the on position and write the code down. Come back online here and check the engine code index at the top of the page.

Thanks, I was hoping that was the problem. The check engine light comes on periodically still, I will try checking the code next time it does.I will be replacing the sensor, as that was my assumption from the beginning as well.
