Default RE: 01 Durango Cold Start Problem

Don,
I have a 4.7. The code we are getting is P0601. From what I've read, we may have to replace the Powertrain Control Module. Does that sound right?? I spoke with the dealership, and they gave me a price of $371.00 for a re-manufactured computer, plus labor of course.

A family friend of ours (also our mechanic) came over last night, hooked up his scanner, and got the same code.

However, he also checked some things out, andunhooked the Idle Control Sensor (? is that the right term? It's the sensor beside the TPS). Anyway, he unhooked that, and it made no difference in the way the truck was running. He said that taking that off should have either killed the motor, or made it idle higher.

To answer your question, we did not reset the PCM after we installed the new battery. So we'll try that tonight. My question is, would other problems cause this code, or should we just go ahead and spend the money to replace the PCM and hope that fixes it?????

I really think the problem is with your IAC sensor like your friend said. At idle if you disconnect it, the car should not run at all. You most likely can find one at napa for around 30 bucks. Our grand marquis did the exact same thing before I replaced the sensor. Its worth a shot and I think it will solve your problem. I would wait on the PCM until after you try it.
